As a national treasure, giant pandas are not only the flagship species for biodiversity conservation, but also a symbol of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Chengdu is the only mega city in the world that has both captive and wild giant pandas, and is making every effort to create a globally influential"Park City·Panda Capital"city logo and accelerate the construction of a world-renowned cultural city.
The Chengdu Area of Giant Panda National Park covers an area of 1,445.7 square kilometers,involving four counties(cities), namely Dujiangyan, Pengzhou, Chongzhou and Dayi, with 73 wild giant pandas.
Among them, the Chongzhou area is the intersection of the two largest wild populations of giant pandas in the Minshan and Qionglai mountain ranges. It is a key area and corridor hub for the survival,reproduction, and genetic exchange of giant pandas, known as the"Giant Panda Love Corridor".
In May 2014, Chengdu Radio and Television Station and the Propaganda Department of Chongzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC)joined hands to organize the"Crossing the Anzi River-Giant Panda Love Corridor Scientific Investigation Live Broadcast"event, which brought the Anzi River Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province into the public's field of vision.
June 21-26,"through the giant panda love corridor"ten years again-the giant panda national park joint patrol live activities launched. The former Anzi River Nature Reserve has been upgraded to the Chongzhou section of the Giant Panda National Park,becoming a happy land for giant pandas to flourish.This ten-year engagement mainly focuses on live broadcast from the top and bottom of the mountain.Through on-site visits on the mountain and expert interviews at the bottom,the audience is led to delve into the habitat of giant pandas,showcase the rich resources and protection achievements of the Chongzhou area of the Giant Panda National Park, witness the changes in the ecological environment together, and promote the culture of giant pandas to enhance public awareness of ecological protection.
According to Wang Wei,Minister of Propaganda and Education at the Chongzhou Conservation Station of the Giant Panda National Park,the park was established in October 2021.The Chongzhou area gathers various natural resources such as snow capped mountains,grasslands,waterfalls,forests,and rivers,covering important protected areas such as the Anzi River Nature Reserve,Jiguanshan National Forest Park,and Jiguanshan-Jiulonggou Scenic Area.It is also the closest habitat for wild giant pandas to the urban area of Chengdu.
From the 2014"Crossing the Anzi River•Giant Panda Love Corridor Scientific Investigation Live Broadcast"event to now,10 years have passed,and the Anzi River Nature Reserve has also become a part of the Giant Panda National Park,with the protected area increasing from 101 square kilometers to 280 square kilometers.Opening the calendar,amidst the myriad of time,it records the footsteps of the patrol team who once crossed mountains and ridges,as well as the unremitting efforts of Chongzhou to build the Giant Panda National Park.
The construction of ecological civilization is not the responsibility of one person or one's own efforts.In recent years,Chengdu has taken building a strong ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers as its leadership,adhering to ecological priority and green development as its guidance,and strengthening the protection of rare flagship species such as giant pandas as its driving force.It has scientifically improved the investigation and patrol monitoring of background resources,actively explored the mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products,innovatively established an ecological protection compensation mechanism,and worked together to create an"ecological green lung"for park cities,a"green highland"for biodiversity protection,and a"demonstration model"for the harmonious integration of mountains,waters,human and cities.
